Makeup Trends for Spring/Summer 2018
Do you follow the most current makeup trends??
This past year was really hard for me to follow due to some trends being way over the top.. like the super intense Instagram eyebrows. I’m a mom and can not spend an hour doing my eyebrows each morning. If you feel the same way about some of last years trends, I have good news for you! This spring and summer’s main theme is all about highlighting your natural beauty! I’m so happy to leave behind the high matte coverage and get back to natural glowy skin. Let those freckles show through!!!
Here are a couple trends taken from the runway but can easily be applied to the life of a busy mummy.
1.Its all about healthy, moisturized skin! Several runways like Lacoste, Saint Laurent, and Temperley featured models with radiant ‘you but better’ skin. Gone are the days of your skin looking uniform and all the life sucked out. This years trend is great for encouraging women to focus on a great skincare regimen, therefore not needing heavy makeup.
Foundation recommendations: Mac’s Mineralize Moisturize Foundation, Estée Lauder Double Wear Nude Water, and Nars All Day Luminous foundation
2.A simple, beautiful bright red lip is back! Well here in Paris, it never really went away. Runways like Blumarine, Dolce & Gabbana, and Max Mara all paired a bright red lip with natural skin to create a severe yet minimal look. Busy moms rejoice, all you need is a quick dab of concealer and a bright red to look put together.
Red Lip Recommendations: Mac’s Retro Matte in Quite the Standout or Feels So Grand, Chanel Rouge in Pirate, Revlon Super Lustrous in Fire & Ice, and Nars in Heat Wave
3.Eyes are all about the graphic liner, whether it be a sharp black line, a feline flick, or a fun colored liner. Whichever one you choose, pair with a very natural face. Once again this trend is easy to adapt to a busy mom’s schedule. Simply pop on a colored liner with moisturized skin and you are out the door. The graphic liner trend doesn’t have to be perfect, which is also great for a busy mom.
Liner Recommendations: L'Oréal Paris Infallable Paints Eyeliner, Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon, Make Up Forever Aqua XL Eye Pencil, and Rimmel London Colour Precise
👄Lip Hygiene Hack❗️👄
How often do you clean your lip balm / chapstick or Lipstick??
Here’s a quick way to rid a tiny top layer (along with germs) & create a clean slate for next use!
I recommend following this little hack👇🏻👇🏻
•After sharing your lip balm/lipstick with someone else
•After recovering from an illness
•Generally once a month
Dates Have you ever wondered when is it time to purge your makeup stash or when should I chuck this lotion or perfume?
Lucky for you most beauty products come with a handy expiration symbol, either on the bottle or packaging label. The symbol of an open jar with a number, indicates how long the product is good for upon opening. I highly recommend dating your products with a sharpie pen.
Besides the packaging recommendations of expiration, here is my general rule of thumb for purging beauty products.
*Foundation/Concealer: Water based- 12 months Oil based-18 months *Face Powders (Blush,Bronzer,Setting): 18 months *Mascara: Every day use- 3 months Occasional use- 6 months (Remember never to pump your mascara as it adds air and bacteria) *Eyeliner: Liquid- 3 months like mascara Pencil- up to 3 years as you sharpen off the bacteria. *Lipstick/Lipgloss: 12-18 months *Perfume: 30 months (2 1/2 yrs) *Nail Polish: 2 years *Lotions: 1 year *Loofas/Sponges: 3-7 weeks *Hair Care Products: 2 years
Diy Magnetic Z palette
I have several palettes that I don't use all the colors and would love to combine them into my personal ultimate palette. You can purchase a Z Palette starting out at 16 euros(Price varies depending on size). I wanted to create my own for cheaper. I purchased a magnetic adhesive sheet from the craft store for 7 euros. I already had a container and other materials needed for the project. Creating the z palette was simple but depotting some of the makeup was a bit TEDIOUS.
Hope this inspires some of you to create your own ultimate love palette!
As a busy mum, this is one of my fav new lipsticks -
L'Oréal 2 step gloss then sealer
It is not sticky, does not rub off on anything, and lasts the entire day!
In this picture I am wearing:
Top right 213Teaberry
Bottom left is 506Infallible
Easy way to look glam all day!
How fun are these mermaid/unicorn inspired makeup brushes?!?!?
These beautiful colors bring a smile to my face! Set includes three face brushes and two eye brushes.
Winged eyeliner can be very challenging and frustrating!!!
Try using a plastic toothpick as a DIY eyeliner stamp. In my quest to get the perfect wing, I tried using a bobby pin and dental floss picks but they all failed. The plastic toothpick method required a couple test runs but I feel fairly confident now. I also used a bit of concealer and a brush to clean up any mistakes.
*Apply your liquid eyeliner to the straight, pointy end of the plastic toothpick.
*Place the end at your preffered angle.
*Release and fill in the eyeliner. At this point, you can create a simple or dramatic look.
Beauty sponges like the Beauty Blender and the Real Techniques Miracle sponge are great for blending in foundation, but hard to keep clean. I clean my sponge after every use so that I don't make my acne worse.
So far, my best technique for cleaning a beauty sponge is water and a simple bar of soap.
*take your bar of soap and sponge and rub together under running water. (This way helps clean the sponge from the inside out.)
*then place the soap aside and continue to squeeze water through the sponge.
*you are finished when you can no longer see soap come out of the sponge.
How to fix broken makeup.
Get ready to play doctor and save your precious makeup while also saving your 💸.
*Rubbing Alcohol or makeup wipes
*Toothpick or other sharp object
(I used a cuticle pusher)
*An object matching the size of your makeup pan
****Before starting, be sure to wash hands and sterilize any utensils used.
•Crush broken powder into a finely milled powder.
•Add several drops of rubbing alcohol until a paste is formed. This can also be performed with a makeup wipe pressed on top of the powder.
•Place paper towel over the paste and press down with an object similar in size. (I used a cap to another beauty product)
•Use spoon for final press and then smooth over the surface.
•Leave powder open to dry for at least 2 hours.
Congratulations! You have saved your precious makeup.
I love getting rid of my facial peach fuzz with a simple face trimmer. Shaving your face with the right tool will not make your hair grow back darker. It only appears darker if you shave with a blunt razor. That's why I love this type of trimmer!
Trimming your facial hair (even that peach fuzz) is great for getting rid of dead skin and creating a smooth surface for makeup. I do this once a week.
Check Amazon for a battery operated facial trimmer like the one I have. I picked mine up for 10€.
Have you ever dashed out the door only to realize you forgot to put on deodorant?
Try putting a little hand sanitizer on your arm pits. The sanitizer kills the bacteria which causes the odor. This should only be used as a last option and not for prolonged use.
Do you have a million bobby pins laying around?❔❔❔❔❔
Try organizing them in a Tic Tac box.
Remove sticker and decorate with your favorite washi tape. 😊
